TREKKING, HIKING, AND BACKPAKING IN UKRAINE
Ukraine is a wonderful country for an active tourism. By an active tourism we mean trekking, hiking and backpacking. As distinct from many Western European countries, full life in Ukraine without a car is possible. It opens a lot of prospects for those who like free tourism. Besides, mild Ukrainian climate is favourable for such trips. But let's clarify the meaning of three kinds of an active tourism and see what Ukraine can offer us.
Trekking implies long walks in the highland with a small amount of equipment. The route of such walking tour should be carefully elaborated beforehand as it can be dangerous to travel in the mountains without well thought-out track. There are a lot of campings in Western countries which solve the problem of overnight accommodation. In Ukraine the situation is different but you can spend the night in small houses for rent, that is the second reason why you should elaborate your route otherwise you may have to sleep outside. Perfect places for trekking are the Carpathians and the Crimean mountains which are famous for their indescribable nature. Mountain violent rivers, picturesque views and fresh air are the earnest of successful trekking.
The term backpacking speaks for itself, it means travelling on a long distances with provisions and different equipment obvious for such trips. Unlike trekking, backpacking implies free route, using transport and even sleeping in hotels. For backpacking there are such popular routes as Shatsky Lakes, valleys of Kamenets-Podolsky or the great variety of them in the Crimea.
Hiking is similar to trekking but such travels are short and don't even imply spending nights somewhere in camping or hotels. This variant is the best for the beginners; they can exercise their forces without overstraining themselves. People usually hike in the Crimea and the Carpathians, there are special routes for the short walks which can give you an opportunity to fall in love with Ukrainian wild nature.
