Most of the trains in Ukraine are old and for foreign visitors some of the peculiarities of a trip by train can be unexpected and unknown so you should get some hints. The tickets for a train you can buy in any ticket office or on the rai lway station but of course the most convenient way is to buy them online. The price of a ticket depends on your place in it. The carriages are of two types: compartment and a third-class-sleeper. The tickets for the third-class-sleeper are much cheaper but we advise you not to save money on tickets and to buy a ticket to the compartment carriage because it is safer and cleaner. You should also take care you have enough food for a trip because the meals are not provided in trains. The food you take should not be perishable, it is not recommended to take meat products to the train. You can order tea or coffee from the conductor or on the stations but don't buy food on the stations and be careful because the stops are often short so ask the conductor about the duration of it. Drinking alcohol in trains is prohibited and is punished by a fine or you can be even put off the train. The last and the most important advice concern documents, money and other valuables. Don't leave such things unattended otherwise they can be stolen. To get money or documents back is nearly impossible but still if it happens to you, tell about it to the conductor – the sooner the better.

Going by train surely has some disadvantages but it is the best way for you to see the country even if you do it from the window.
